Hi!I've been looking for a review that mirrors my own perception of this book and this post is one of the best I've found. Since I've read Pillars of the Earth two years ago, I can't write a review for this book, unless I read it again--for which I don't have the time nor inclination with a huge TBR pile. So, I hope you don't mind my linking your post to mine. You may check it out at http://josbookshelf.wordpress.com.

Okay, I've decided to turn from popular culture criticism (as illustrious an art as it is) and focus on writing columns on restaurants I've been to. That's not to say I won't post on pop culture. But if there's to be an official theme to my blog, it'll be food.

I started with a memoir as an introductory step into my new field. I so anticipated Brave New Restaurant that I feared a slight bias in my rating. A memoir introduction will give the new objective a more personal touch.

I'll try and post on restaurants from the past, because I don't know when I'll eat out. It'll be a scant few visits until school starts. For the most part, it'll be a survey of Central Arkansas cuisine, but I'll post on grand adventures elsewhere.

If you like Bungle and miss them, you should check out Trey Spruance's even more obscure but still existent band Secret Chiefs 3. A lot less vocals and no Patton, which might dissuade some, but they do some amazing stuff and have come to outshine Mr. Bungle in my book, which is an impressive feat.

You didn't miss anything by skipping out on Signs -- it is by far my least favorite of his works.

That said, though his work is formulaic, I do enjoy Shyamalan's films. They always keep me engaged, and I enjoy the impending twist. Sixth Sense, though, will always hold a special place -- it was brilliant, though perhaps more so if it had been one of its kind, without the following films.

I agree with Rwara. This is a very interestng approach: only reviewing what you say in class. I like it. Oh, and you need to watch the who mini series...it is great.

I really liked the way you managed to critique what you saw of the movie and let that stand alone even though you haven't seen the rest of the film.
